Rutgers begins Halsted Middle School Rain Garden Design

Thursday, March 28, 2019

The Wallkill River Watershed Management Group and Rutgers Water Resources Program recently worked with students from Halsted Middle School in Newton to teach them about the purpose and process of constructing a rain garden to treat polluted stormwater runoff. A rain garden at Halsted Middle School will help to prevent polluted water from flowing into the nearby Paulins Kill River.

The students also had a chance to observe Rutgers completing a survey for the proposed rain garden site. Then, they worked with the Wallkill Group to understand the decisions that go into play in order to select a site for a rain garden. The WRWMG hopes to continue to involve Halsted students into every phase of the rain garden planning and construction process!
