Tuesday, January 31, 2017

The Wallkill River Watershed Management Group is extremely excited to announce that the New Jersey Corporate Wetlands Restoration Partnership (NJCWRP) has pledged an additional contribution of $20,425 to help fund the continuation of its Wallkill River Floodplain Reforestation Initiative. The project aims to re-establish a forested buffer along a section of the Wallkill River in Sparta Township in order improve long-term water quality while simultaneously immersing middle and high school students in hands-on fieldwork during their science classes. To date, over 600 Sparta students have become directly involved in tree planting and protection at the site. The Wallkill River Watershed Management Group looks forward to continuing to educate additional classes of students about the benefits of streamside tree buffers throughout 2017 with the help of NJCWRP and numerous local partners.
