Lake Wallkill Outreach Event a Huge Success at Wallkill River Wildlife Refuge

Thursday, July 07, 2016

Kristine Rogers, of the Wallkill River Watershed Management Group, recently worked with the staff of the Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge to coordinate an educational field day at Owens Station in Sussex, NJ. Approximately 40 children from the Lake Wallkill community participated in a rotation of different stations where they learned about non-point source pollution and the role that macroinvertebrates play in determining water quality. The children also had a chance to fish, kayak, hike and do archery. The purpose of the event was to generate more awareness about the wildlife refuge and to foster a sense of pride among community residents for protecting the health of their watershed.
