Jefferson Middle School Students Participate in Field Trip with SCMUA and WRWMG

Tuesday, May 24, 2016

Students from Mrs. Helfand’s Earth Science classes at Jefferson Middle School recently participated in a field trip organized by the Wallkill River Watershed Management Group and the Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority. The sixth grade students took a watershed walk around Lafayette Park to learn how people cause water pollution, determined the water quality of the Paulins Kill by collecting macroinvertebrates (aquatic insects) from the river, and learned about recycling by touring the SCMUA facility. This year’s event marked the decade-long partnership between the SCMUA/WRWMG and Mrs. Helfand’s classes. Everyone is looking forward to continuing to keep the tradition alive by organizing another field day in spring 2017 for a new class of Jefferson students!
