Erosion Control Project Installed in Papakating Creek Watershed

The SCMUA-WRWMG recently worked in partnership with USDA-NRCS to oversee the implementation of an erosion control project at Windy Flats Dairy in the Papakating Creek Watershed. The conservation plan led to the installation of a rock-lined waterway that will allow for the safe transmission of runoff water. As part of its cooperative cost-share agreement with USDA-NRCS, the SCMUA-WRWMG also helped oversee the implementation of a winter cover crop on the farm’s agricultural fields. The cover crop will improve soil fertility and prevent excess sediment from running off into Papakating Creek when the land is not in production.
