AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassadors Reforest Floodplain Along Decker Road

Wednesday, November 18, 2015

The WRWMG, along with their partners at The Nature Conservancy, welcomed the AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassadors from watersheds throughout New Jersey for a day of riparian reforestation along the Paulins Kill at Decker Road in Lafayette. The watershed ambassadors were able to plant and protect 400 #3 containerized trees along the waterway, helping to improve the long-term water quality of the Paulins Kill while simultaneously controlling invasive reed canary grass through shade production. Although this was the first time that the WRWMG coordinated a riparian reforestation work day for all of the AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassadors, the day was tremendously successful.  Not only were hundreds of trees planted, but the event also educated participants how they can coordinate similar small-scale reforestation projects in their own watersheds.
