The WRWMG Completes draft of the Upper Paulins Kill Watershed Restoration Plan

Thursday, December 01, 2011

The Wallkill River Watershed Management Group (WRWMG) and Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority (SCMUA) have recently completed the development of the first official draft of the Watershed Restoration Plan for the Upper Paulins Kill Watershed (Headwaters to Balesville). The Plan, the development of which was funded by a NJDEP 319 Non-point Source Pollution Control Grant, offers a comprehensive strategy, including numerous specific projects, watershed tasks, and implementation themes, which, if implemented, will serve to restore, maintain, and protect the long-term water quality and ecological health of this watershed area. The WRWMG’s work as part of this effort has included targeted sampling and technical studies to gather specific water quality data to help perform a comprehensive characterization and assessment of the project area and to identify potential pollutant control measures for the watershed. An extensive education and outreach program for the residents and stakeholders of the watershed area has also been developed and is continuously being implemented as part of this project.

The Upper Paulins Kill Watershed Restoration Plan was developed with significant services from North Jersey Resource Conservation and Development (NJRC&D) Council, the Sussex County Office of Geographical Information Systems Management (SCOGISM), Princeton Hydro LLC, The Land Conservancy of New Jersey (TLC), Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) as well as input and support from many community contributors.
