Halsted Middle School Summer STEAM Program is a Success
Thursday, July 28, 2022
The WRWMG's Education and Outreach Specialist worked with Halsted Middle School students as part of the Summer STEAM program. The students participated in a demonstration using a watershed model to learn how rivers and streams can become contaminated by fertilizer, pesticide, road salt, motor oil, and other types of “people pollutants.” Then, the students examined live aquatic insects (macroinvertebrates) collected from the Wallkill River and learned how macroinvertebrates can be used to help determine whether a stream is healthy or polluted based on the types of organisms identified.
