WRWMG and USDA-NRCS Sign a Cooperative Partnership Agreement

Thursday, January 26, 2012

The Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority / Wallkill River Watershed Management Group and the United States Department of Agriculture / Natural Resource Conservation Service have formed a cooperative agreement to work together to plan, promote, and implement agricultural BMP's, resource conservation, and water quality improvement projects within overlapping watershed project areas in Sussex County.

Both the WRWMG and NRCS have common goals of improving water quality, increasing awareness and participation in conservation programs, promoting environmental stewardship, and leveraging available technical and financial resources to accomplish these goals and needs. This no-cost shared services agreement establishes the means for the two entities to work together in partnership to ensure optimum integration of available resources, while also helping to prevent the duplication of common work efforts between the WRWMG and NRCS.

This agreement represents a major milestone that the WRWMG has been working on for more than five years to achieve. The WRWMG strongly believes this cooperative agreement is the essential tool it needs to finally become recognized as a trusted local liaison for the agricultural community of Sussex County.
