USDA-NRCS Soil Scientist Visits Paulins Kill Reforestation Site

Tuesday, June 04, 2019

A soil scientist from USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service recently worked alongside representatives of the WRWMG and TNC to study the soil conditions of their floodplain reforestation site along the Paulins Kill River in Lafayette.

He found that the soil was high in organic content, which will help the trees and shrubs grow, but isolated areas should be avoided because the soil lacks enough mineral content that provides the structure necessary for tree roots to become established in. His analysis will help TNC and the WRWMG better plan their reforestation efforts moving forward.
