Sussex Tech Students Plant Trees in Newton’s Memory Park

Wednesday, April 10, 2019

Sussex Tech students worked alongside the Wallkill River Watershed Management Group and The Nature Conservancy to plant trees along the Paulins Kill River in Newton’s Memory Park. Students worked hard to plant 250 native trees and shrubs. Some of the species planted were American sycamore, red maple, river birch, red-twig dogwood, and pussy willow, all of which can thrive in the wet floodplain conditions next to the river.

The students and teachers look forward to finding additional ways to collaborate with the Wallkill River Watershed Management Group and will be working together to find a location for a stormwater management project in the next few weeks!
