Sparta High School Freshmen Study Aquatic Insects to Determine River Health

Thursday, April 12, 2018

249 environmental science students at Sparta High School recently worked with Kristine Rogers, Education Specialist for the WRWMG, to study the health of the Wallkill River. Aquatic insects have different pollution tolerance levels so by examining the types of organisms present in a portion of the river, students were able to calculate a score for the biologic health of the Wallkill River at Station Park. Students were very happy to learn that the results show the Wallkill River at Station Park has high biodiversity and overall stream health!
