SCMUA-WRWMG Installs its 2nd Rain Garden

Monday, October 30, 2017

The SCMUA-WRWMG recently partnered with the Town of Newton to install a rain garden in Memory Park. The project is designed to capture polluted runoff from the parking lot and filter the water into a vegetated garden that will allow the water to soak into the ground, instead of flowing directly into the nearby Paulins Kill River.

Merriam Avenue School students assisted with the planting event, but countless additional partners contributed both funding and time to help make the project possible.

Partners included:

  • Town of Newton
  • National Fish and Wildlife Foundation
  • William Penn Foundation
  • NJDEP Rutgers Water Resources Program
  • NJ Future
  • NJ Audubon
  • Cerbo’s Nursery
  • Merriam Avenue School
