WATERSHED RESTORATION PLANS

Papakating
Creek, Wantage Towsnhip
Clove Acres Lake, Sussex Borough
In 2005, the New Jersey Department of
Environmental Protection (NJDEP) awarded the Wallkill River Watershed Management
Group (WRWMG) two separate,
but related, Federal Clean Water Act Section 319(h) Nonpoint Source Grants to
develop individual watershed restoration plans for both
the Papakating Creek and the Clove Acres Lake Watersheds.
What is a Watershed Restoration Plan?
A Watershed Restoration Plan is a watershed-based plan designed to
determine the course of action necessary through the identification of specific
measures to be taken to restore impaired waters and to protect unimpaired
waters.

RELEASE OF DRAFT WATERSHED RESTORATION PLANS FOR THE PAPAKATING CREEK AND CLOVE BROOK
WATERSHEDS PLANNED FOR JULY 2008
On January 22, 2008, the Wallkill River Watershed Management Group (WRWMG)
met with representatives from the NJDEP Division of Watershed Management to
review the overall project status and provide updates about the current
restoration plan development, share the game-plan for developing
implementation themes and strategies for the entire watershed.
At
the meeting:
-
The
WRWMG provided a presentation which summarized the background
information of the grant project, presented the water quality sampling data
results and interpretations, detailed ongoing source tracking efforts, and
opened the discussion about the Restoration Plan outline and potential
implementation themes and strategies
-
The WRWMG presented a Summary
Table of Restoration Plan Themes and Implementation Strategies for the
Papakating Creek & Clove Brook Watershed to show NJDEP some
of the key ideas and restoration efforts that the WRWMG is building into the
Restoration Plan.
-
A
general game plan for the continued development and distribution of the
Restoration Plan to project partners and the general public for review and
input over the next six months was established.
The WRWMG extends a big thank you to the NJDEP
Division of Watershed Management for all
the ideas
and guidance provided at the meeting, as well as all of their continued support and assistance. Both
the WRWMG and the NJDEP share a common goal of
developing watershed plans that will provide local stakeholders and residents
with a meaningful and realistic game-plan for the restoration,
protection, and enhancement of the watershed.
Water Quality Monitoring & Sampling
Efforts
As part of he current grant projects to
develop Watershed Restoration plans for the Papakating Creek and Clove Acres
Lake Watersheds, The Wallkill River Watershed Management Group (WRWMG) has
successfully completed tweleve (12) months of surface water quality sampling at
11 different sites throughout watershed area. Analysis of the data results will
included in the completed Watershed Restoration Plans for both watershed areas. For more information about the
sampling program please contact the WRWMG at 973-579-6998 x 109 or by email
